Area 3 BANQUET
November 13, 2004

the party!

How do you spell ‘party’? ‘A.R.E.A. 3’, that’s how! All told, the crowd of 170 enjoyed a memorable night celebrating the year’s end. At a new location this year, the ‘Roman Palace’ in Newmarket provided both an elegant facility and delicious dinner. Unfortunately I cannot find the words to adequately describe the quality, originality and superb selection of this year’s awards. As anyone attending can tell you, every award well defined the effort and accomplishment it took to earn them! All credit can be solely bestowed upon Laura McArthur and Debbie Pereira. - And, if you’re wondering how they transported all the awards? In all seriousness, it required the use of Laura’s 4 horse trailer cram packed ! Further credit must be given to Jackie Fisher who orchestrated the whole evening, and together with the remarkable help of her daughters & friends, we were all seated & socializing in no time. Lisa Howe did a fabulous job organizing the silent auction table, and Carol Reeves was our master of ceremonies for the evening. Our D.J. kept the entertainment quite unique - challenging us to do everything from finding theme songs to our very own version of ‘Area 3 Idol’. - who would have believed the likes of Cher; Madonna and Ann Margaret could deliver such a rave performance! Just when we didn’t think we could laugh any more, we witnessed with awe ‘Hula Hoop’ queens in full swing. Some of them didn’t appear to move at all & still those hoops kept going. In the end, it was the silent auction that took center stage. Our most unique item had to have been the genuine slot machine, kindly donated by ARS Imports. Rick O’Donnell was the successful bidder on this! Through everyone’s efforts - both donators & bidders this year’s auction raised $1,475.00 in funds!

Youth Achievement Award

It was an honour to present Amanda Pereira as this year’s Youth Achievement award winner. Amanda has helped the club out so much this year. She is always keen to take up new challenges and her dedication to the club and the quarter horse shows is evident in all she does. Amanda has been a long time member of Area 3, starting off with walk/jog and proudly competing on the NYATT team a Congress.

Helping Hands; Linda Lambert Memorial Award

Our club is so incredibly fortunate to be blessed with someone like this year’s Helping Hands honouree. Jimima McRae is one of those unquenchable people who is always ready to help. Whether she is standing in the intense heat of the Summerama Trail warm-up area, drafting up the working order, moving trail equipment around, helping out with our OYTT tournament or playing hostess to clinicians, she does it all with selfless generosity and a smile as big as Texas. As we all know, volunteers are what makes our club so special - make our shows a ‘family’ type of event, and Jimima does it so well!

THOSE SPONSORS!

Unquestionably we have been able to offer exceptional awards, prizes and payback all due to sponsorship. We are truly honoured to have both businesses and individuals who believe in what we are doing so much that they graciously give us support. Some or our sponsors are directly connected to the horse industry. Some are themselves exhibitors, some businesses are not even remotely connected to the horse industry - yet, they support us. By that token, every effort we make to recognize their patronage would be the highest compliment we can give in return. In the coming months we will definitely be looking to renew sponsorship for the upcoming season. Anyone wishing to help in this area is welcome to contact the club for further information.

Thank you to Jackie Fisher for organizing this fun evening and Laura McArthur and Debbie Pereira for purchasing outstanding year end awards! Awesome job ladies - Area 3 is very lucky to have such incredible volunteers!

COMMEMORATIVE AWARDS
The following SPECIAL AWARDS are presented at the Area 3 Year End Awards Banquet each year. We invite you to contact any director with the name of a candidate whom you think most deserves to be considered for these awards!

Helping Hands Award

This award is given in honour of one of our very own special members. Linda Lambert was an untiring volunteer of this club for many years. A carded WHAO judge, ring steward, board member, and avid horse enthusiast, she was the active wheel that kept the club turning. In 1999, while ring stewarding a horse show, a lightning strike took her life. In her spirit of giving, the HELPING HANDS award was established so that we may recognize and thank those special people that do not ask for accolades or payback, Sundays off or overtime. The simply do what needs to be done, see the job through come rain or shine.

Youth Achievement Award

Each year the Area 3 board of Directors watches the activity at the horse shows and related club events throughout the year to find possible youth candidates who would fit the criteria of an ‘achiever’ in the horse world.
The recipient of this award is someone who must exemplify both sportsmanship and horsemanship. An individual who is a role model for all youth, generous and courteous to all. Helpful and instrumental in various club activities. Quick to offer congrats and encouragement. Treating her horse with respect and care. A youth who cares deeply for the quarter horse‘s versatile qualities. It is with careful thought and consideration of all the great youth in our club that the executive, with some assistance from others within our industry, must select one individual who sets the standard for excellence.

Final point standings and High Point & Reserve High Point Award winners will be posted as soon as possible following the Futurity/Summer Circuit show on our web site at www.area3.ca.
Please contact Debbie Pereira for more details on point standings at 905-859-5785
