The Ontario Quarter Horse Association realized that the cost and
time required for hauling horses was making it more and more
difficult for the small horse owner to travel the OQHA show
circuit.

The Promotional Club concept was born to offer to all registered
Quarter Horses owners the opportunity to show within their area
of residence and once again enjoy showing their horses with a
minimum of expense and travel time. The OQHA formally recognizes
the Area Promotional Clubs existing within the geographical
boundaries set out in its Constitution.

Below are the new boundaries for Area 1 to Area 3 - changes took
place in 2003 that effect these regions...

Area #1: the entire southwestern tip of Ontario
eastward to Highway #4, Highway #4 from Lake Erie north to
Highway #8 northwest along Highway #8 to Lake Huron. The city of
London and all addresses therein shall be included in Area #1.

Area #2: From the eastern boundary of Area #1,
as described above, easterly to Highway #6, from the north
boundary of Owen Sound and south to Lake Ontario and all
addresses west and southeast of Highway #6 will now be
considered to be in Area #2. The Queen Elizabeth Way south of
Hamilton and easterly encompassing the Niagara Peninsula. The
city of Guelph and all addresses therein shall be included in
Area #2.

Area #3: From the eastern boundary of Area #2,
as described above, easterly to Highway #11 at the northern
county line of Muskoka county - following Highway #11 south to
Highway #12 to Lake Ontario. The northern boundary shall be the
county line of Muskoka. All addresses east of Highway #6 will be
considered in Area #3.

Please contact one of the Area 3 board members for more
information on the Area boundaries or contact the Ontario

President – Corey Taylor says she enjoys giving back to Area3
because she has gotten a lot of pleasure out of showing in Area3
since 1995.Corey hopes to continue to maintain the quality of
shows and the club that the previous boards have worked so hard
to achieve.
Vice President – Jessica Mosley-Cairncross is a familiar face at
the Area3 shows and has been involved in the club for a while.
Jessica says she wanted to be on the Area3 board because she
felt it was time to lend a hand .Jessica felt after many years
of coming to the shows it was her turn to give back and hope
that others will feel the same and give their time too.
Director/Newsletter/Commercial – Judy Filion Gill was introduced
to Area3 several years ago and although hasn’t shown I felt I
wanted to become more involved and get to know the members
better. Taking on the newsletter and commercial is something
I’ve really enjoyed .I’ve learned a lot and hope to keep
learning .Being on the Area3 Board of Directors is a great way
for me to educate myself and be more involved in a different
area of my passion.
Secretary – Michelle Lemeiux became a member of the club in 2005
and had a 2 yr old gelding (Riley) shown halter that year that
went Open Champion. Michelle showed for the first time herself
in 2007 in Am Geldings 3& over, Aged Geldings and Showmanship.
They received their ROM in Am Geldings and were Area3 Am
Geldings 3 & over Champions. Riley is now coming off an injury
and starting his under saddle training. Michelle is a welcomed
addition to the Area3 Board of Directors.
Show Coordinator/Stalls/Treasurer – Val Love is a familiar face
at the Area3 shows, need something ask Val, need to know
something ask Val, need to find someone ask Val. She has been a
tremendous support to the club, its members and board and
continues to work so hard whether it be with the board or on the
Novice show.
Director – Tracy Dinely has been showing in Area3 for several
years now and has recently joined the board of directors. Tracy
feels strongly about the quality of the shows, the facilities
and strong competition Area3 has to offer. She felt by getting
more involved she could be a part of the growth and success of
the Area3 Promotional Club.
Director Cheri Woodrow had always dreamed of showing Quarter
Horses and her first Quarter Horse turned out to be a surprise
from her husband Dave. He gave her a card telling her the new
horse could be picked up at Barb and Jim Lockyers. The horse was
Kuz Thats Why and so the story goes. Cheri has recalled all the
fun times she has had at the shows and realizes how blessed she
is to have so many good friends. Always concerned with the
future of the club, the quality of the shows and the benefits to
the members Cheri has agreed to sit on the Area3 Promotional
Club Board of Directors.
Director Fiona Cameron is a second year student at Trent
University in the Concurrent Education program and majoring in
History. While at school she continues to ride on the equestrian
team. Fiona has been showing at the Area3 shows for 5 yrs and
has loved every minute of it! Competing in the over fences
classes Fiona feels it is important for someone to represent
those classes as a Director. Fiona also accepted the position
knowing the executive and members were looking for someone
younger to join. So Fiona decided to get more involved in the
behind the scenes aspect of the club. |

You've heard the phrase "membership has its benefits" and
membership with the Area 3 Promotional Club has its benefits
too!

Recently, a prominent member in Ontario called Area 3 "very
progressive" and innovative. The Area 3 executive works very
hard to try to ensure that statement is true! Here are some of
the ways we keep working for you:

Members receive The RIDER free 10 times each year as the source
for Area 3 news. The Rider is Ontario's largest equine
publication and will provide members with news on all areas of
equine activity in the Province. If you know of a member who is
not receiving their copy of the Rider each month - please contact us.

Getting your membership in early guarantees that your Area 3
Year End Points will begin tabulating with the first show of the
year. Area 3 year end awards are considered to be some of the
best in the industry. For more information on Area 3 Points
check out our Point & Trophy rules
here.

The Area 3 web site continues to be one of the most informative
web sites available in the equine community. It is being
sponsored by Acappella
Information Systems - owned by Mike & Jodi Mallette. The
site is updated constantly with all the latest information and
details on equine events in Ontario. Classified ads are free and
are a very popular area on our site.

Area 3 hosts three of the largest shows inside the province each
season.
Summerama has consistently been the top show in Ontario for
many years and boasts entries from all across the United States
and Canada. We are fortunate to have fantastic facilities to
hold our shows at with stabling on the grounds and multiple
rings to keep the shows running smoothly. We also approve other
Quarter Horse shows that are being held inside our area 3
boundaries each year - for more information

You can see by this impressive list that Area 3 offers alot to
its members - we encourage you to get involved in the
association & support this club with your membership,

Helping Hands Award
This award is given in honour of one of our very own special
members. Linda Lambert was an untiring volunteer of this club
for many years. A carded WHAO judge, ring steward, board member,
and avid horse enthusiast, she was the active wheel that kept
the club turning. In 1999, while ring stewarding a horse show, a
lightning strike took her life. In her spirit of giving, the
HELPING HANDS award was established so that we may recognize and
thank those special people that do not ask for accolades or
payback, Sundays off or overtime. The simply do what needs to be
done, see the job through come rain or shine.

Past winners of the Helping Hands award:
2009 - Greg Reeves
2008 - Lynn Riley
2007 - Greg Reeves
2006 - In 2006, we had many volunteers who gave so much to the
club, we awarded multiple winners - Bonnie Lawson, Debbie
Pereira, Corey Taylor, Elizabeth Willsey, Shannon Cairncross
2005 - Hilton Howe
2004 - Jimima McRae
2003 - Wendy Cairncross
2002 - Andrea McGowan
2001 - Greg Reeves

Saturday February 13th, 2010 at the Holiday in Barrie from 1-4
(before the banquet). |
|
|
The Area 3 Promotional Club is a not-for-profit organization run
by volunteers from it's membership. Each year members are asked
to attend the Annual General Meeting where they will get the
opportunity to review the club's financial position, participate
in discussion about the previous year's shows and events, ask
questions and be part of the election process of the Board of
Directors for the following year.

This meeting is an incredibly important function of the club and
all members are encouraged to attend! This is their opportunity
to have a voice and shape the future of their organization.

Please
contact us if you would be interested in offering some time
as a volunteer - we always have jobs both at the shows and away
from the shows that need attention! |
