Amateur Spotlight - Anne Legros

Anne was born, raised and lives in New Liskeard, a small town north of North Bay.  Anne, her husband Steven Burnett, and son Robert live across the road from her parent’s farm where she keeps her horses. Anne also has a 10 year old Poodle cross named Thor.

Anne has a bachelor’s degree in Information Management from Ryerson University. For the past ten years, she has worked as a Customer Service Agent at ServiceOntario in New Liskeard where she issues Ontario government licenses and permits.  Outside of work and showing, Anne enjoys helping out on one of her family’s cash crop farms and helping raising and showing of the family’s beef cattle.  She supports Steve in his sport – curling. Steve has twice competed at the Canadian Brier.  Anne says some of the most interesting things she has done outside of horses have been the jobs she held as a youth, such as helping out with the riding program at an Easter Seals Camp.

Anne started showing horses when she was about 8 years old in local western games events. Anne followed the games with pony club events, and then was onto the Northeast Trillium Hunter/Jumper circuit for a number of years on an Appendix Quarter Horse. Anne’s calling to AQHA came about five years ago. She was participating in a riding clinic in Timmins, Ontario and was watching a friend quietly school a western pleasure horse. Slow-legged and draped reins, Anne was captivated by the horse’s movement. In the summer of 2007, Anne enlisted Lindsay Grice to help her find a quality Quarter Horse. She purchased Rip Olena, a.k.a. Roper, a three-year old gelding by Principle Investment and out of a Good Version mare. They survived a competitive 2008 quarter show season in three events; showmanship, horsemanship and western pleasure. The pair finished 2008 as the Area 3 Reserve Champions in both Novice Amateur Horsemanship and Novice Amateur Western Pleasure.  Their best horse show moment was their first win at the 2008 OQHBF Fall Finale show in Novice Amateur Horsemanship.

Anne appreciates the horse show support she gets from Steve and her parents and friends. She hopes to continue showing AQHA for years to come.
