Amateur Spotlight - Allyson Nicol by Sarah Black

Allyson Nicol

Allyson Nicol has been a very familiar face to Area3 and Ontario quarter horse association members for many years now. She has been active as youth competitor for the past 5 years, this year she will be making new memories as an amateur.

Allyson began showing when she was 13 on her first mare Generally Priceless (Genny). She moved on to her second show mare Ladies Secret Design (Fancy).  Allyson and Fancy have been a strong team for the past few years. Together they have accomplished many yearend titles within Area3 as well as Ontario. They have received many individual show all-around titles as well as individual class circuit champions. In 2008 they represented the Area3 promotional club at the All American Quarter Horse Congress as a member of the NYATT Youth Team.  Through all their hard work and team effort, Allyson and Fancy made the finals in the extremely competitive NYATT horsemanship class. Allyson said that making the finals was her biggest/best horse show moment. In the future she hopes to return to the Congress again as a competitor.

This summer Allyson will be showing Fancy in western riding, trail and halter.  She will be travelling to all the Area3 shows as well as some Ontario shows this summer. Allyson’s favourite classes are both the trail and western riding because she enjoys the challenges each event has to offer. Allyson has been riding with Jodi Mallette throughout her career. She would like to thank Jodi for all her support and coaching along with her Aunt Trisha, who introduced Allyson into the horses and has always been there for her.

It is clear to see Allyson’s passion for horses. She spends time at the farm helping with daily barn chores and rides as much as possible. However her passion for animals does not stop with her love for the equines. Allyson is always the first to play with a new dog or puppy when she comes across one. Allyson owns two dogs of her own. Molly, a Labradoodle and Mason an Australian Sheppard and Poodle cross.

Outside her animal life, Allyson enjoys shopping as well as travelling. She has fully enjoyed the limited amount of travelling she has done so far and hopes to do more.

I would like to congratulate Allyson on a very successful Youth career and welcome her as a new amateur exhibitor. All the best in 2010!
