At
the age of 9, Lisa received her first pony and that's when it all
started. For years she rode her ponies in the woods and kept them at
home. When she took her pony to a boarding stable, she realized there
was a whole other world out there. At this stable people showed – she
didn’t really know what they did or where they did it, but she wanted to
show as well. She made her debut in Novice Amateur Showmanship in 1988 at a Quarter Horse show in Clarksburg, West Virginia. She said she didn't even know what showmanship was and just before the class her trainer explained to her what a 360 turn meant. She practiced in the aisle of the indoor arena and went into the class with her horse biting her hand the entire time. She kept the horse for a month after that and moved on to another horse. She discovered at that point what her pet peeve was and still is - a biter! If you know Lisa, you know that showmanship is her thing and obviously she was not detoured by her initial Showmanship experience. Before moving to Ontario, she travelled all across the U.S. to show, but since living in Ontario, she has limited her travels to within the province, Maine, Ohio and Oklahoma. Lisa has had an amazing show career, but she says that winning the Showmanship challenges have been her most memorable. Here are some of her showing highlights Im a Classic Beau: 411 AQHA
All-time points My Malibu Barbie: 67.5 AQHA
all-time points Merci Beau Clu: 2005 Amateur
Halter ROM Yes Its All About Me: 44 AQHA
All-Time Points Yes Its All About Me, a 5-year-old bay mare is her show partner this season. They plan to show in Halter, Showmanship, Western Pleasure and maybe even try a few other classes. In addition to her love of Showmanship, Lisa also enjoys Trail and Equitation. A frightening incident occurred a few years ago at Carp when Lisa was showing a difficult yearling gelding in Halter. As she was getting the gelding set up for inspection, she noticed the chain part of her lead shank had separated and essentially, the horse was loose and didn't know it yet. Very gingerly, with one hand and heart pounding, she wove the chain and screwed the link back together. Raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Lisa currently calls Caledon her home. She has 5 quarter horse children: Beth Ann (19 years), Mercy (4 years), Mojo (3 years), Bo (2 years) and the newest addition, Paris (5 years). Lisa graduated from college in 1984, with a Bachelor of Science degree and followed a career in Psychiatry for 13 years. She now works full-time with her quarter horses. In fact her “hobby” is banding and braiding and she says, “I know this doesn’t sound very exciting, but when it takes you to the AQHA World Show every year, and you work with World Champion horses, it can't get any better than that!” Her mom and sister are always and will always be her main support. However, now a certain redhead has joined the team (and we all know who that is!) and her help has been great!!! Congratulations Lisa on your accomplishments and best of luck this show season! |
