Lisa started showing quarter horses in 1987, when her family bred their quarter horse mare to Arctic Flower (Dianne and Hilton Howe’s stallion at the time). This was when David and Lisa met and 21 years later – I guess the rest is history. Previous to entering the quarter horse world, her family competed in endurance and competitive trail riding (OCTRA). Lisa has had very successful Youth and Amateur show careers. She has won many All Around and High Point awards and qualified for the Worlds in Amateur Showmanship – her favourite class. One of her favourite show memories was winning an All Around Amateur award with Generally A Melody and running the barrels to gain points. They have travelled all over Ontario and some parts of the states for shows. One of those forgettable horse show trips for the Howes was a trip to the Congress. They were travelling with a load of horses and they blew all 4 tires on the trailer. They were on the highway in Sarnia about an hour before the boarder and we were on the side of the highway in between exits. They called Rick Fleetwood who came with his trailer and they transferred the horses to his trailer and he took Dave, Lisa’s mom and Lisa across the border, as they had to get to the border before the vet left. Dianne was left with the trailer to get new tires. In 2008, the Howe family will be hauling 2 horses - Howes This and Generally Easy which they will all share in showing. Lisa plans on showing in Showmanship and will take Katie in Lead Line. The Howes are very active outside of horse showing. Lisa volunteers for a girl’s rep hockey team - Samantha plays pee wee rep hockey, David is head coach and Lisa is the manager. Katie likes to figure skate and dance. With the whole family involved with showing, the team is very fortunate to have great family support. Lisa and David’s families have bred and raised World and Congress Champions. The Howe family stands General Mito; he has sired multiple World and Congress Champions and Reserve Champions and is a Super Horse sire. The Howe’s and the Zeiger’s have had much success with breeding and raising some great horses which has brought the families a lot of joy and good times through the years. Lisa says, “I enjoy very much watching our girls show and be competitive. For us it is a great family hobby with both my parents and in-laws involved. I have met many amazing people through the industry and have made some life-long friendships.” Good luck to the entire Howe family in 2008!!! |
