Amateur Spotlight - Tania MacDougall by Lynn Riley

Beware - you may walk into the library one day and come out showing horses.  Tania MacDougall had a chance meeting with an old horse show friend, Wanda Jones-Beck at the library. She encouraged Tania to get back into the show ring after a 20 year hiatus.

Tania has made her mark in the ring this show season with her Superior Hunter Under Saddle gelding, Seekers Magic Pine (Snoopy), winning a first in Novice Hunter Under Saddle at the Spring Classic, only two weeks after dislocating her shoulder.

Tania purchased Snoopy - a 12 year old, dark bay gelding - from Randy and Lynda Fox in the fall of 2008.  Tania is showing Snoopy at the Area 3 shows this season.  The pair show in Hunter under Saddle, Western Pleasure and plan to try Hunt Seat Equitation in the near future.  Her favourite class is Western Pleasure.

Tania was a horse crazy kid and first learned to ride at an English stable when she was 11 years old.  Family friends, Tim & Val Lawrence sold her family their first horse, a black quarter horse gelding named Streaky King (King).  Tania showed King and several other quarter horses at local club shows and on the WHA circuit from 1976 through 1981.  She exhibited in Western Pleasure, Horsemanship, Showmanship and Trail on occasion.

Tania lives in Erin with her husband of 25 years, Scott, a Schipperke named Sophie and sons Cameron (20 years old) and Kevin (19 years old) who are both pursuing post secondary education.  Tania is the Controller at Brent Packaging & Logistics Ltd., a Custom Crating and Export Packaging company in Mississauga.  Outside of horses and work and when time allows, Tania enjoys reading, hiking and camping.  She has also had some fun experiences on several Caribbean cruises, one including the two boys.

Tania would like to thank her trainer and friend, Donna Barton, of Donna’s Performance Horses, for all her great advice and alleviating her show jitters, Randy & Lynda Fox for their encouragement, her husband and parents who love to provide lunch and help groom. (Thanks for the egg salad sandwiches Mom!).

Tania’ parting words are – “Snoopy is a great horse and I’m having a blast with him this summer!  I am enjoying seeing old friends, making new ones and I look forward to many more years of showing.”
