Michelle Mason currently resides on a 10 acre hobby farm located
in Brooklin, Ontario where her family lives with the motto “we
have a small family so we fill our house with animals”. Arriving
at the Mason’s farm you will be greeted by her two barn cats,
two house cats, six quarter horses, two thoroughbreds, a sport
horse and a duck named feathers.
Michelle first began showing American Saddle-breds and Arabian
horses when she was 12 years old at the Durham Saddle Club. She
first began to compete on the Quarter Horse circuit in 2004 when
she purchased her first Quarter Horse Sonnys True Reward, aka
Spud. Michelle came across Spud while boarding at Thunder Ridge
Farm, owned by Janet Faas. Soon after owning her first quarter
horse, Janet convinced Michelle to show at the ever popular
Summerama. After that she was hooked! Michelle currently shows
Spud in amateur all-around events as well as her other current
show mount WR Earl Grey Te (aka Coffee) who she mainly shows in
Amateur Hunter Under Saddle and Halter classes. Michelle also
has a yearling sired by My Final Notice that she hopes to show
in the lunge line classes this year.
Michelle’s future goals for showing include hoping to try
western riding someday as well as to compete one day at the
Worlds and the Congress. She has a passion for breeding and
raising her future prospects. She currently has a 2010 red roan
filly out of Zippos Mr Goodbar and her broodmare is in foal for
2011 to To Sleepy To Zip.
Outside of the horse world Michelle works as an office
administrator at the Innovation Institute of Ontario (IIO) which
is a not-for-profit business services provider supporting other
not-for-profit organizations in Ontario and Canada. She
graduated from Ryerson University in 2008 with a Bachelor of
Commerce, majoring in Management and a minor in Human Resources.
Michelle also enjoys travelling and has seen many great
attractions over the years including travelling to Ireland, the
grand canyon, underground cave diving and snorkelling on the
world’s second largest coral reef.
Through all of her experience and success Michelle thanks her
family for their support and providing her the opportunity to
show. Her coach Kelly Williams for her guidance, Janet Faas for
her continuing support from the beginning, Dave Aitchison for
helping her get started on the AQHA circuit and all the OQHA
members that have now become a second family to her.
We wish Michelle all the best in her upcoming shows and
adventures! |
