AREA 3 SPRING CLASSIC A BIG SUCCESS... by Ken McLellan

Area 3’s first show of the season - the Spring Classic - was a GREAT SHOW. I have already received thank you e-mails from Ontario and U.S. exhibitors saying how much they enjoyed the show and the facilities.

The Orangeville Fairgrounds were well received as the new venue for the Area 3 Spring Classic. The stabling indoors and in tents was great, the indoor arena came in handy for the Trail Classes, as well as with the colder weather on Sunday, the outdoor show pens were excellent and the parking areas worked well, no matter where you were stabled. And for the most part, the Orangeville weather cooperated. The Welcome coffee and donuts for exhibitors each morning courtesy of Area 3 were appreciated.

Showmanship entries were fantastic with 111 entries showing on Sunday including 29 in the Novice Amateur Showmanship. There was also a good number of Youth Exhibitors with 22 in the Youth 14 – 18 Youth Hunter Under Saddle Class on Sunday.

The Gambler’s Choice Trail on Saturday Night had 5 entries vying for the win. There was a great crowd to enjoy the class with 180 people buying tickets to the Youth Fundraiser - Pasta Dinner which included fresh roll, salad and cupcakes for dessert. There was some excellent trail competition. Sarah Black riding Envious Trip impressed a good number of the spectators when she completed the Trail Pattern, Bridleless. Stephanie Willsey of Orillia had an enthusiastic cheering section as she was the last entry to compete. When all was done, only 1 point separated the Champion and Reserve Champion Gambler’s Choice Trail Horse. Jodi Mallette riding Hes Asgoodasitgets, owned by Shelly Scriver of Belfountain, was the Champion with last year’s Champion, Corey Taylor and Traded The Krystal from Wasaga Beach, the Reserve Champion. This will certainly continue to be an annual event.

Congratulations to the following high point winners:
• NOVICE YOUTH – Elizabeth Willsey & Gone Bar Huntin
• NOVICE AMATEUR - Shelley Scriver & Hes Asgoodasitgets
• AMATEUR – Jodi Henningson & Ready Set Win
• SELECT AMATEUR - Sherry Newbigging & For The General
• YOUTH 13 & UNDER - Paige Carter-Fleetwood & Docs Daring Me
• YOUTH 14 – 18 - Mackenzie Harvey & EBG Certainly

Also, congratulations to the winners of the $50.00 ticket exchange draws: Leslie Riley, Caitlyn Black (2), Leslie Mastromatteo, Jodi Henningson, Samantha Howe, Colie Florica and Sylvia Hoyt. In addition, draws were held for Orangeville East Side Marios’ gift certificates and were won by Leslie Riley, Corey Taylor (2) and Shawna Stemmler.

The SUCCESS of the Spring Classic was due to the hard work and support of a number of individuals and corporate sponsors. A BIG thank you to:

Valerie Love for all her volunteer work handling the stall bookings and move in – and pitching in wherever required during the show. She also looked after the morning coffee and donuts.

Ken McClellan and Jean Walker for managing the show, plus their crew of helpers - Theresa, Ruth, Brenda, Lisa and Alex for running the gate, ribbons and organizing the classes.

Leslie Ellins and her show office team for their professional and efficient handling of entries.

Greg Reeves for designing & setting the trail courses.

Deb Puddister for organizing the printing of the great new sponsor signs

Gord Gallagher and Don Stauffer of the Orangeville Fairgrounds for helping with the show logistics
