Youth Spotlight - Allyson Nicol by Elizabeth Willsey
Allyson Nicol has truly made her mark on the Area 3 Circuit. In just a few short years, she has accumulated an impressive collection of awards and the future looks even brighter!

Allyson Nicol is a Grade 11 student at Jean Vanier Catholic High School in Wasaga Beach. Allyson started riding 6 years ago and has been showing in AQHA for 3 years. Allyson shared her love for riding and her first horse, Generally Priceless (Genny) with her Aunt Tricia. Both Allyson and her Aunt showed Genny in Area 3 shows. Allyson quickly learned how to impress the judges, taking home many ribbons that first year.

After a successful start to her show career, Allyson was introduced to Ladies Secret Design (Fancy). Allyson and Fancy have been together for only two years, but have won prestigious All Around Awards at many of the Area 3 shows, including Summerama. In addition, in their first year together they were declared the 2005 Area 3 Champions in Novice Youth Showmanship. Even more impressive this past show season, they received the Area 3 All Around High Point Novice Youth award and the Area 3 Reserve High Point Novice Youth Equitation award!

Truly an All-Around rider, Allyson’s achieved her first goal winning the High Point Novice Youth award for Area 3…with that under her belt, Allyson is diligently working towards her next goal…to show at the Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio. Allyson’s favourite classes are Trail and Hunter Under Saddle and her favourite show is Summerama.

Allyson is thankful and very much appreciates that her Aunt Tricia had the time and patience to introduce her to such a wonderful sport. Allyson asked me to thank her mother and sister for their support and also for cheering her on at all of the shows. She told me, “I am extremely grateful for all the support my mom gives me and I can’t thank my sister enough for all the help she gives me when I am getting ready for my classes.” With an easily detected talent, in her first year, Allyson began training to become a competitive rider with Lindsay Grice and Jodi Mallette. Now Allyson trains exclusively with Jodi, never forgetting the principles that Lindsay had taught her and being deeply appreciative to both Lindsay and Jodi for her many successes in the past 3 years. With a dedicated focus from Jodi, Allyson looks forward to showing in the 2007 show season, not just in Area 3, but all over Ontario and maybe even the U.S.! Wherever showing takes her, Allyson and her horse Fancy will do their best … making everyone who watches them proud of all they have accomplished in such a short period of time.

Good luck this year Allyson & Fancy!
