Youth Spotlight - Brittany Stanton by Elizabeth Willsey

Brittany Stanton shows her handsome 6 year old gelding, Mr Kip In Time, in the Novice Youth and Youth 14-18 Showmanship, Hunter Under Saddle, Equitation, and Horsemanship classes. Brittany has been riding for eleven years, but only started showing Quarter Horse three years ago. Already, Brittany has had great successes in the AQHA Show pen, including finishing the 2007 season with the Area 3 Reserve Champion Hunter Under Saddle Award, as well as the Novice Youth All Around Award at the Ilderton show last July.

Brittany has been blessed with several great Quarter Horse mounts over the years. These include: Im That Type of Guy (Scooter) who is now happily retired at their farm, Disposable Income (Riley) and Russian Roulette (Newt). Brittany is an accomplished horseman who may not realize it, but has already started to develop a long range career within this wonderful industry with the purchase of Newt. Brittany played a large role in training and selling Newt, which has been one of her proudest moments in her Quarter Horse career.

Also sharing space in her heart is when she won the Novice Youth Hunter Under Saddle class at Summerama her first year of showing. I was there when she won, and I know I speak on behalf of all of Kelly Simpson’s barn when I say, we couldn’t have been prouder. The cheers from Kelly’s group could be heard for a very long way! Brittany works very hard with Oakley, practicing hard for the shows and working on perfecting their skills – And, it paid off big that day!

Brittany started showing club shows at a young age and amassed many great awards before stepping up into the AQHA classes. I know everyone from our barn is happy the Stanton family started showing the Quarter Horse Circuit; the shows just wouldn’t be the same without them. Brittany’s future plans include going to the All American Quarter Horse Congress in Ohio to show and hopefully be prepared.

Brittany will be 18 years old this June and currently attends Park Street Collegiate where she is in grade 12. She would like to thank her family, Greg Rapson, Kelly Simpson, Josh Walters and Pat Chamberland, for all their help and support in helping her achieve success in a sport that she loves. She would also like to thank everyone she has met over the years who has helped her get where she is today. Brittany enjoys swimming, writing and hanging out with friends in her free time.

Good Luck this summer Brittany! We’ll all be cheering for you, and I know you will make us proud!
