Youth Spotlight - Jasmyn Rivait by Elizabeth Willsey

Jasmyn Rivait, also known as “Jazz” and a handsome gelding by the name of “Classical Version” (Oliver) are almost finished their first show season together. AND, they have made quite a mark in the Small Fry events.

Jasmyn and her sister Sharese  and dad, Rob train under the guidance of Kelly Simpson and her husband, Josh Walters, and Kelly’s assistant, Pat Chamberland in Orillia, Ontario.  Although Sharese is only 8 years old, her mount, Shez Paid For (Princess) have worked along side Jazz and Oliver this summer, and from all who’ve been watching – it’s clear the younger Rivait team is following closely in Jazz and Oliver’s footsteps.  The Rivaits bought Oliver at the end of last year’s show season and they worked hard to prepare him for the 2007 show season.  Jasmyn and Oliver practiced their skills all year and their dedication and hours paid off.  Jasmyn and Oliver received the Area 3 Champion Small Fry Showmanship award, as well as the Ontario Quarter Horse Association Champion Small Fry Showmanship award.  Jasmyn would like to thank Kelly and Pat for all their help and dedication.  She would also like to thank her family for all their encouragement and support of her love of horses.

Jasmyn’s favourite horse show is Summerama, and her favourite class is by far, Showmanship. Next year, Jasmyn is planning to show in the Youth 13 and Under events! With the support of her coaches and her family, Jasmyn will show at the All American Quarter Horse Congress in Ohio in Youth 11 & Under Showmanship. The work that Jasmyn and Oliver have done this summer has prepared them well … if you ask Jasmyn though, it was no work at all. Riding, training and working with Oliver, almost daily, the entire summer, is described by Jasmyn as “All Fun!” Good Luck down at Congress … we’ll be rooting for you! In fact, you won’t have to listen much to hear us cheer … I’m sure yours will be the biggest crowd in the stands.

Jasmyn hopes to someday compete at the AQHA Youth World Show … and there is little doubt that Jasmyn will reach her goal – she is a very dedicated young lady!

Jasmyn is currently in Grade 6 and attends Notre Dame Catholic School in Orillia. Her favourite subject is art. When Jasmyn isn’t riding, she likes to spend time with her friends. Jasmyn and her family have a quite a collection of pets – 2 horses: Oliver and Princess, 4 dogs: Angel, Nicki, Keisha, and Harley, and 2 cats: Missy and Sparkles.

Good Luck in the 2008 show season!
