Youth Spotlight - Morgan Altman by Elizabeth Willsey
Morgan Altman has made quite a splash in the Small Fry show pen this year.  Morgan showed her gorgeous 8 year old mare, Final Devotion, her friends call her Deedee, in the Small Fry Showmanship and Walk-Jog this past summer.  Morgan and Deedee are quite an impressive team, and Morgan loves Deedee a lot.  She even told me that Deedee was “the best pet and show partner.”  After a good effort at a show, Morgan treats Deedee to ‘Yogos’ or other candy which are her favourite.  Morgan is looking forward to moving up to the Youth 13 and under events.  Next year, Deedee and Morgan will be competing in the Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Horsemanship, and Trail.

Morgan has been riding for the past 5 years, but has had a passion for horses since she was 2.  She drove her parents crazy with her non-stop horse talk and now spends any spare time with her horse.  Morgan loves the horseshows and at the top of her favourite shows list is Summerama.  In fact, her most memorable moment in the show ring was winning the Harley Davidson jacket from the Championship at Summerama last year.  Morgan’s goal for next year includes working on her western lope and adding some English classes to her show roster.  Morgan is very accomplished in the show ring, with many awards including being named the Area 3 Champion in Small Fry Showmanship, the OQHA Reserve Champion in Small Fry Showmanship, and at Summer Circuit, Morgan and Deedee were the Small Fry Showmanship Champions, and the Reserve Champions in Walk-Jog and Trail.  And just recently, at the Area 3 Banquet, Morgan was given the award for the “best smile” – an award Morgan definitely deserves.  For all of you who watch the Small Fry events know what I am talking about, as Morgan’s cute smile can be seen for miles!

Morgan trains with Kathleen Burnett of Encore Equestrian Centre in Belwood, Ontario.  Morgan would like to thank Kathleen Burnett for all her patience and persistence, as well as all the kids and parents from the barn for all their encouragement.  Morgan would also like to thank her parents, Tara and Murray Altman for all their support and encouragement in helping her to excel in a sport she loves so much.  She would also like to thank her cheering squad: her brother, Kaeden, and sister, Sydney.

Morgan is currently in Grade 5 at St. Joseph Catholic School in Fergus, Ontario.  In her free time when she’s not with her horse, Morgan enjoys reading, drawing, swimming, skating, and spending time with her adorable Bichon Frise, Foster.

Congratulations Morgan!  Keep up the good work and we will be looking forward to seeing you and Deedee in the Youth events next year!
