YOUTH SPOTLIGHT - Mackenzie Harvey by Christine Reid

MacKenzie Harvey, from Etobicoke, Ontario, is yet another youth who's ready and waiting for show season. Since last summer, MacKenzie has formed a team with her new horse, Zip Do It. She's owned 10-year-old 'Zip' for less than 1 year, and already has big plans for this summer. She plans to compete in Hunter Under Saddle, Equitation, Western Pleasure, Horsemanship and Showmanship, all in both novice-youth and youth 13 and under classes.

Last summer MacKenzie showed her first horse, Lonesome General. She and 'Lonesome' picked up the Reserve Champion Youth 13 and under Hunter Under Saddle and the Reserve Champion Youth 13 and under Equitation awards at last year's Area 3 banquet after just 1 short year together.

MacKenzie began riding when she was 4 years old, with her first instructor, Jodi Mallette. She has been training with Lindsay Grice Quarter Horses for the past 7 years. One of her goals for the future is to compete at the All American Quarter Horse Congress in Ohio, possibly on the Ontario Youth Team.

Mackenzie is 11 years old, and attends Mentor College in Mississauga, where she's in grade 6. Her favourite subject is math and she's interested in being a veterinarian when she's older. When she's not riding, she usually spends her spare time catching up on homework. She also enjoys dancing and playing the piano.

Best of Luck for 2002, MacKenzie!
