Youth Spotlight - Tiana Domingos by Elizabeth Willsey
Tiana is 11 years old and a grade 6 student at Brisbane Public School. Her family breeds Quarter Horses on their farm in Erin, Ontario. Tiana has three dogs, Cookie, Jackson and Ozzy. She enjoys singing in the school choir and loves competing in the local Erin Idol singing contest. Tiana is non-stop action, in addition to riding and singing, Tiana loves to swim and in downtime, likes to hang with her family.

Tiana started showing in club shows when she was just a year old. In 2002, Tiana started showing the AQHA circuit, and loves it! She has been showing “Sheza Cool Whip” in the Walk Jog and Small Fry Showmanship classes for the past 3 years. Tiana was recently introduced to “Some Kinda Superstar,” a 16.2hh, 5 year old bay mare. Tiana hopes to compete with her this show season in Halter, Showmanship, Hunter Under Saddle, Western Pleasure, Horsemanship, and maybe even Hunt Seat Equitation. This brand new show team has no shortage of goals for this summer’s show season.
Tiana has won many awards in the years she has been competing. Presently, Tiana is the 2006 OQHA High Point Small Fry Showmanship and Walk/Jog Champion and the Area 3 Small Fry Showmanship Champion and Reserve Champion for Walk/Jog. In 2005, Tiana took home the awards for Area 3 High Point Walk/Jog and Reserve Small Fry Showmanship and the OQHA awards for Champion Small Fry Showmanship and Reserve Champion Walk/Jog.

Tiana’s favourite show is Summerama, and her favourite class is Showmanship. Her proudest horse moments were when she was awarded the titles of Champion in Small Fry Showmanship at Summerama 2006 and 2005. Tiana’s future riding goal is to always do her best and to some day show at the Congress. Tiana aspires to become an environmental engineer just like her Aunt Sharon who lives in Florida.

Tiana’s drive, ambition, and commitment to achievement are overwhelming to me. In September of 2004, Tiana was hit by a car. This tragic event might have prevented her from pursuing her show career … not Tiana - It barely slowed her down. Tiana says, “I have had to take things a little easier than I would have liked and this summer may be a hard road, but I want to give it a try.” As all of us who show competitively know, it is no easy task … I know each of you will join me in wishing Tiana all the success hard work can bring – I’m in awe of her dedication and commitment to our sport and wish her the very best.

Tiana would love to thank her trainer Mark Grice for all his patience and advice. She would also like to thank Lisa Grice for being a great friend! Tiana loves showing Quarter Horses, and really loves meeting people in the organization.

Good Luck this year Tiana! We’ll be cheering for you!
