Two Amateurs and a Youth – Three Generations Showing Together

In 2018 News, Amateur News by admin

We are the Bidwell/Mcdonald family – Sandy Bidwell, Lori Mcdonald and Paige Mcdonald. Three generations of horse lovers all showing together! Sandy Bidwell is retired and enjoys 6 months of living in Florida while we all freeze here! Myself, Lori, I work part-time for the family business, doing the books, etc. Paige is in grade 10 and enjoys playing co-ed hockey in our hometown of Nobleton when not riding.

The family interest in horses started with one innocent business vacation to California, where Sandy and husband, Wally went with a group of people for a long trail ride. After that experience, Sandy was hooked. As soon as they got back, we were all signed up for riding lessons at Burton Stables, then of course came getting a horse, and from there, there was no turning back.

Some of our most memorable show accomplishments include, Sandy qualifying with her horse Im A Dapple “Bugs” for the Amateur World Show in Showmanship. I’m most proud of putting an ROM on Playing for Stars, “Coy” and qualifying for the Novice Championships in Equitation.
Paige was lucky enough to start off young in Lead Line, then Walk/Jog where she was the Area 3 Reserve Champion and is now tackling the youth 14-18 division.

We all enjoy showing together and giving words of encouragement and of course, laughing at each other! We couldn’t do any of this without the support and assistance of all our family members. My husband, Bill helps get us to the shows and set up in record time.

It’s a well-known fact that amongst family members, it can be very difficult to receive criticism or offer advise. So, we would have to say that is the hardest thing about showing together. Paige being a “teenager” knows it all!

Thankfully we are under the guidance of Suzanne Pickard and Jason Duquette, where they make learning fun, remind us to always maintain a positive attitude and yes, keep “Paige in Line!”

We wouldn’t change the time together for anything.
